A FORMER police officer has joined the line-up of candidates vying to secure a place on Casey council at the November elections.
Chris Andrews, a Berwick resident for more than 20 years, says he believes Casey council needs representatives who will act professionally.
The first-time candidate and working solicitor said he had a strong knowledge of the fast-growing Casey area.
Mr Andrews, 44, said he would bring mediation and negotiation skills to the council chambers.
With a history of community service as a member of the Australian Army and Victoria Police, Mr Andrews has more than 20 years’ military experience in special operations.
He spent 10 years in the police force, based at Narre Warren and Dandenong police stations, and was also an instructor at the Victoria Police Academy.
Mr Andrews said, if elected, he would push council to implement a new councillor code of conduct.
“I’m a bit disappointed at the performance of some current councillors,” he said. “Councillors need to act appropriately in and out of the chamber.”
He said the City of Casey needed more railway car parking, roads, libraries, playgrounds and sporting facilities.
Mr Andrews is a member of the Liberal Party but says he is not endorsed or financed by the party.
Mr Andrews is a member of the Rotary Club of Berwick and Berwick RSL, treasurer of the Narre Community Learning Centre and has been the chairman of the City of Casey’s Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal for two years.
