ROUND five of RVBA pennant was a mixed bag for Cranbourne RSL Bowls Club.
Selectors had high hopes of victory in the local derby against Cranbourne, but too many bowlers played below their capabilities.
The home side ultimately recorded a crushing 40-shot victory.
Results: Cranbourne 114 d Cranbourne RSL 74. Greg Dore 16-31, Ryan Drummond 23-25, Mal Watkinson 13-31, Neil Drummond 23-27.
Coaches’ award: Mick West (three votes), Peter Somers (two), Walter Brannan (one).
The RSL (2) team outplayed its opponents at home to earn a 24-shot victory and move up the ladder.
Scores: Cranbourne RSL (2) 103 d Burden Park 79. Bob Preston 23-21, Lindsay Coate 21-29, Barry Jones 32-16, Tom Barnes 27-13.
Coaches’ award: John Fisher (three), John Smith (two), Barry Jones (one).
Cranbourne RSL’s VLBA team lost to a very strong Noble Park team away last week.
The players are hoping they can bounce back and string a few wins together after the Melbourne Cup Day break this week.
Next Sunday sees the start of the men’s club championship singles, and the bookies have installed nine-time champion Neil Drummond as the second favourite in a strong field.
