P-platers worry for police

POLICE have ex-pressed concern over P-plate 2 drivers after a young driver was charged recently.
Casey Traffic Management Unit Acting Sergeant Allen Inderwisch said police detected a P-plate 2 driver travelling at 154 kmh in a 100 kmh stretch of the South Gippsland Highway in Hallam on 29 October.
Acting Sgt Inderwisch said the 19-year-old had been charged with exceeding the speed limit, travelling at a dangerous speed, failing to display P-plates and several drink driving offences and would appear in court later.
“We are very disappointed that young drivers are not getting the message,” he said.
Acting Sgt Inderwisch said police were faced with recurring incidents, including drink driving, failing to display P plates and driving unroadworthy vehicles.
However, he praised P-plate 1 licence holders, saying police had not detected any of these drivers breaching the new laws.
Casey council area has one of the highest number of road deaths in Victoria this year, with 12 people killed compared with 11 last year.
