Seniors’ bus in top gear

The Hampton Park Community Renewal committee (HPCR) has implemented the service in partnership with the Hampton Health Retirement Village, using the community bus driven by volunteer Murray Grad.
City of Casey manager city living Richard Amon said it was fantastic to see this wonderful project starting to deliver outcomes with the implementation of one of the priority projects – a community transport initiative.
“This initiative continues to build on the success of HPCR and will no doubt greatly benefit residents of the retirement village by increasing their independence,” he said.
“It will also provide them with the opportunity to get out and about and visit the shopping centres on a regular basis.”
Mr Amon said the HPCR project, one of ten planned to form part of a local action plan, aimed to strengthen opportunities for activity and positive change in Hampton Park.
“This transport initiative is another great example of what can be achieved when we all work together for the local community,” he said.
“That is what the community renewal project is all about – it strives to bring residents, business, government and local organisations together to help transform the local community into a place of opportunity and activity.”
The HPCR initiative is a partnership project between the City of Casey, Department of Planning and Community Development and the Hampton Park community.
Future HPCR projects include clean-up days, River Gum Reserve improvements, ‘art walls’, fire-safety education, festivals and events, increased availability to health services, youth skills development, a mentoring program and road and traffic improvements.
