With all out for just 168 runs, John Simpson (37), Shane Simpson (29) and Ryan Christie (25) were the standouts as the Magpies posted their first loss of the season – and fell to fourth.
Doveton’s bowling line-up was on fire, with Corrie Wilson (4/36) posting season-best figures, along with Matthew Hutchinson (3/42) and Ryan Hendy (2/22) to move up one spot on the ladder to eighth.
@BT Sub Sport News:Hallam-Kalora Park d Keysborough
Hallam-Kalora Park had no trouble defending its strong 315 total with Keysborough’s batters surviving just 55 overs to post an unimpressive 117 runs.
In trouble from the start, as their openers struggled to make an impact, Keysborough’s Surad Uduman (31) was the only batsman to post a total of more than 20.
Hallam-Kalora Park picked up where its batter’s left of, combining to oust Keysborough for a lowly total with Lee Brown (3/20), Cory Booth (2/9) and Nabeel Azimi (2/41) ensuring a convincing victory and moving the Park into the top three.
@BT Sub Sport News:Coomoora d Cranbourne
After a disappointing opening to the season Coomoora found its form for round-three to come away with its first win of the season against Cranbourne.
It was left up to Cranbourne’s the middle order batmen to ensure a respectable total after the openers failed to impress.
Daniel Hunt (73) and youngster Lucas Ligt (38) did their best to lift the run rate before the tail wagged and it was all over with 175 runs the best they could do.
Coomoora’s bowlers came out strongly with Rizan Mawzoon (4/49) scoring season-best figures with the ball, along with Justin Woodman (3/42) and Mervan Fernando (2/33) to cap off the team’s best performance of the season.
@BT Sub Sport News:St Mary’s d Berwick
Chasing St Mary’s humble total of 178, Berwick’s batsmen weren’t up to the task, with all 10 men falling for just 154.
Ash Henry (38), Brad Francis (32) and Gavan Wills (25) made the majority of runs in a slow-scoring innings.
St Mary’s bowlers came out firing, with Agnelo Dmello (3/29) leading the charge, followed by Andrew Haining (3/35).
Steve Fernando (2/24) and Ron Prudham (2/32) took crucial wickets to limit Berwick to a minimal total, with three men out for a duck.
TURF TWO
@BT Sub Sport News:Fountain Gate d Hampton Park
Fountain Gate’s lean total of 99 in the first innings looked like a sure win for Hampton Park, but it found the going tough, only managing 62 runs from 34 overs in its first dig.
Fountain Gate then amassed a second-innings score of 99 before declaring.
Robert Mullen (35) was Fountain Gate’s top scorer, up against the Redbacks’ bowlers, with David Lucas (3/4) finishing with unbelievable match-best figures and Sanjeeva Udumalagala (3/13) and Nick Scanlon (3/25) not far behind.
Hampton Park ran out of overs to reach the total it needed, but Rhys Fegan scored 31 before being bowled by in-form Fountain Gate bowler James Haupt (5/42), who single-handedly ripped through most of Fountain Gate’s batting line-up.
Fountain Gate came away with its second win of the season to move up three positions and be placed fifth overall.
@BT Sub Sport News:St Brigid’s-St Louis d Maranatha Methodist
Top run-maker Mark Jamieson (122) picked up where he left off, piling on another 65 runs and almost doubling the score made by the rest of the team, to help Maranatha Methodist to a total of 184.
St Brigid’s-St Louis’ strong bowling line-up didn’t disappoint, with Raviviman Wickramaratne (3/33), Shane Goldfinch (3/62) and Brett Ernst (2/40) all recording season-best figures.
Leading by 52, Maranatha Methodist sent St Brigid’s-St Louis back to the crease, but the Saints were too strong with the bat and put the game out of reach.
The Saints are marching up the ladder and are now in sixth position.
@BT Sub Sport News:HSD d Berwick
The target set by HSD was 310 and Berwick didn’t seem up to the task, bowled out for just 99 in the first innings, with Brad James (37) the top-scorer in a lacklustre batting display.
HSD’s bowlers had a field day, demolishing four of the Bears’ batters, including one of the openers for a duck.
Outstanding performances came from James Van Elewoud’s (4/15), Benjamin Doran’s (2/29) and captain Trevor Davies’ (2/30).
Berwick couldn’t avoid the follow-on and had to face the confident HSD bowlers a second time around.
It only got worse for the Bears as they lost five men for ducks.
Paul Stockdale (5/27) and Benjamin Doran (5/37) upped their season’s takings at Berwick’s expense.
