PROLIFIC goalkicker Danny Casset will return to the goal square of his former premiership club Doveton in 2009.
Casset agreed to the move at a meeting with new Doves coach Clint Wilson and star teammate Ryan Hendy, after spending the last three seasons playing in the Southern Football League under coach and good friend Richard Houston.
Casset left the Robinson Reserve after booting 93 goals during the club’s stellar 2005 premiership season in which it went through the year undefeated in the Casey Cardinia League.
Houston enticed Casset to Parkmore in 2006 where he booted 140 goals in the club’s first-ever premiership and then landed at first-division club St Kilda City where he kicked 114 majors in 2007 and another 50 this year.
He missed the second half of this season with a badly broken jaw.
Although he is now in his mid-30s, the former Dandenong centre half-forward said he was still fit and looking forward to ending his exciting and often controversial football career with the Doves.
“I was going to stay with St Kilda City, but the chance to come back to Doveton and play on bigger grounds in front of bigger crowds came up,” he said.
“I’ve signed for two years and I want to finish my career playing good football in this league.
“I enjoyed playing under Richard and there’s no animosity there at all. I told him I wanted to go back to Doveton and he was fine with that.
“We’ll always remain friends.”
Casset’s addition is one of several that will strengthen the young Doves’ line-up in the coming season, with more names to be announced next week.
