MEN’S health was the topic of the day at an ‘Engaging Fathers Workshop’ last week.
More than 40 Victorian professionals gathered at the City of Casey Council offices in Narre Warren to discuss the health and wellbeing of men at an interactive workshop for practitioners working in the family and children’s services sector.
“The Workshop was open to managers, directors, community development workers, early childhood staff, doctors and health professionals,” City of Casey manager Youth and Family Services Lee McIntosh said.
“(It) focused on strategies to effectively engage men, developing programs for men, an overview of Mensline Australia, including key men’s issues, referral pathways and ongoing best practice.”
Guest speakers were professional counsellor and consultant John Byrne and business development manager of the Crisis Support Service Dr Nicholas Foster.
The workshop was part of council’s Dads Matter Project, funded by the Federal Government’s Communities for Children project and administered by Windermere Child and Family Services. It was also the third convention conducted by the council’s Family Development Services men’s program team this year.
Ms McIntosh said the event was a success, and soon, there will be more initiatives that support the role of local fathers.
“Casey continues to lead the way in pioneering programs specifically for the men in our community to ensure we are building strong, happy and healthy families.”
