Cranny tackles Croydon

CRANBOURNE Bowling Club took it up to Croydon in this week’s Pennant Bowls, Metro One Division, but the home side drew away to win by nine shots.
Cranbourne won only one rink – that of Ray Travica – but was narrowly beaten on the other three.
Croydon 97 d Cranbourne 88. L. Quigg 23-27; B. Gay 23-28; R. Travica 21-16; P. Elgar 24-26.
Cranbourne (2) hosted Mulgrave Country Club and claimed a 16-shot victory. Cranbourne led by nine shots at the break and continued to play well.
Cranbourne won two rinks and drew one, with John Pentreath’s rink starring with a 15-shot margin.
Cranbourne 92 d Mulgrave Country Club 76. G. Imeson 23-23; N. Fell 17-18; J. Pentreath 30-15; J. Imeson 22-20.
Cranbourne (3) showed its strength to defeat a competent Parkdale side by six shots on their own turf.
Cranbourne won three rinks, with skips Rob Paddon and Mick Rowswell the stars with margins of 10 and nine shots respectively.
Cranbourne 101 d Parkdale 95. R. Paddon 33-23; W. Ballard 17-31; M. Noa 25-24; M. Rowswell 26-17.
Cranbourne (4) proved too strong for the Balmoral Gardens side in an important match, and will retain fourth position on the ladder.
The side started well and went to a big lead at the break, but Balmoral Gardens fought back to close the margin to 11.
Cranbourne won two rinks well, with skips Matt Boltong and Roger Roscoe victories ensuring victory.
Cranbourne 114 d Balmoral Gardens 103. M. Boltong 39-18; G. Ljepojevic 21-28; R. Roscoe 33-21; A. Dennis 21-36.
Cranbourne (5) fought back late against Oakleigh side but went down by eight shots.
Sofia Raiti and Len Patterson were the only winners.
Oakleigh 98 d Cranbourne 90. M. Eames 19-26; J. MacInnes 15-25; L. Patterson 25-20; S. Raiti 31-27.
Cranbourne (6) accounted for Caulfield Park by 36 shots at home.
This was a very consistent performance by all rinks, with Rob Sorensen scoring a 13-shot margin.
Cranbourne 101 d Caulfield Park 65. J. Hanks 21-18; G. Winters 29-18; T. Van Schalm 23-14; R. Sorensen 28-15.
Cranbourne (1) hosted top side Dandenong Club in Ladies Pennant, but lost an even match by 14 shots.
Lyn Whalley and Shirley Venville won Cranbourne’s two rinks, with margins of 10 and seven shots respectively.
Dandenong Club 89 d Cranbourne 75. S. Venville 23-16; L. Whalley 27-17; L. Kidd 10-30; K. Dudink 15-26.
Cranbourne (2) was outbowled by a competent Dandenong City side to the tune of 32 shots.
Cranbourne was never in the match although it won two rinks in the contest.
Dandenong City 103 d Cranbourne 71. J. MacInnes 23-21; T. Lennon 23-20; E. Woodman 15-29; B. Carrigan 10-33.
Cranbourne (3) won three of the four rinks to thrash visitors Ferntree Gully by 55 shots.
Cranbourne 105.75 d Ferntree Gully 49.25. O. Stanley 16-15; B. Hassett 28-16; R. Van Soest 24.75-12.75; C. Rose 37-9.
Cranbourne ladies won their first Saturday match of the season with a four-shot margin over Somerville.
Both sides won a rink each with Mary Anne Allen’s team the victors by six shots.
Cranbourne 51 d Somerville 47. M. Allen 27-21; P. Boltong 24-26.
