THE Narre Warren unit of the Victorian State Emergency Service (SES) will be able to purchase electrical testing equipment after a $500 donation from CUA (Credit Union Australia) Fountain Gate.
SES volunteers are required to attend an electrical testing course, with each unit needing its own equipment in order to participate.
“We have been trying to get the money together for quite a while to buy the equipment so donations such as the one made by CUA Fountain Gate mean we can now afford to buy it,” said Narre Warren SES equipment officer Russell Preer. The Narre Warren unit provides 24-hour emergency service for residents throughout the City of Casey.
CUA Fountain Gate branch manager Trevor Johnson said the SES played a vital role in protecting the community, often putting their own lives on the line in the process.
“Members get themselves into risky situations ranging from searching for missing people in dangerous terrain, heavy storms or damaged buildings to helping police with investigations,” he said.
“These missions cost money but the SES receives little government funding and therefore relies on individuals and organisations for support, which is why CUA found it imperative to take action with donating funds.”
