BUDDING cartoonists have been putting pen to paper, sketching with help from News cartoon artist Ray Heathcote.
Mr Heathcote, who’s featured in the paper with his Ray’s Say News Cartoon, has spent the past three weeks passing on his drawing hints to Grade four and five students at Hallam Valley Primary School.
The cartoonist, who was principal at the school 15 years ago, said he wanted to develop the students’ interest in drawing cartoons.
“The students have been developing characters, and learning about the value of surprise,” he said.
As well as developing their drawing skills, Mr Heathcote said the students were also learning about logical thinking, construction of dialogue and sequencing of ideas.
