A BERWICK father is urging the City of Casey to fix a damaged footpath after his daughter sustained injuries to her face, arm and leg after tumbling off a scooter.
Mohammed El-Hennawi’s 8-year-old daughter, Ameanah, was riding home from school when she fell off the scooter while on a concrete footpath in Innes Court in Berwick.
The Brentwood Park Primary School student was rushed to the Casey Superclinic where doctors bandaged her face and sent her to the Casey Hospital to have x-rays on her right arm.
Mr El-Hennawi described the dangerous footpath as having a step between the two slabs.
“One slab is sunk, while the adjacent slab stands higher creating a sharp step,” he said.
City of Casey acting manager for roads and construction Michael Apps told the News council couldn’t comment on individual cases, but confirmed that a footpath in Innes Court in Berwick was recently inspected.
He said a tripping hazard was highlighted on the footpath with yellow paint.
“As a precaution, asphalt will be placed at this location this week to eliminate the tripping hazard and the footpath has been placed on council’s concrete reinstatement register for future works,” he said.
Mr El-Hennawi is urging all residents to notify council of damaged footpaths.
“We don’t want this incident to happen to any other child,” he said.
As part of the City of Casey’s regular program, all footpaths in the municipality are inspected every three years and council undertakes to fix any displacement in footpaths as part of the Road Management Plan.
If residents have any concerns or requests in relation to footpaths they are urged to contact council on 9705 5200.
