A NARRE Warren South house is set to be demolished after it was extensively damaged by fire on Monday.
More than 30 firefighters took about 20 minutes to contain the blaze that ripped through the Eureka Crescent home in the early hours.
Narre Warren CFA Lieutenant Andrew Davey said fire crews arrived at 12.52am after receiving a call from a neighbour.
“The flames were through the roof of the premises,” he said.
“It will have to be demolished as there is extensive damage to more than 60 per cent of the house.”
The two residents were not in the house at the time of the fire, according to Lt Davey.
Ambulance and police also attended the scene.
“We were very lucky that the fire didn’t engulf the neighbouring homes that were only a metre away,” he said.
A woman is assisting police with their inquiries.
The cause of the fire is still unknown however police are treating it as suspicious.
