Bus boost crucial to Casey residents

City of Casey mayor Geoff Ablett says a comprehensive bus service is needed in the municipality.City of Casey mayor Geoff Ablett says a comprehensive bus service is needed in the municipality.

PROVIDING a high standard bus network in Casey is vital for residents in the municipality, mayor Geoff Ablett says.
Commenting on the State Government’s $38 billion transport plan, Cr Ablett said high quality arterial bus links in Casey were essential because many Casey residents did not have access to the rail network.
The transport plan identified a $500 million expansion of local bus services and continued commitment to the Outer Suburban Road Program.
“Casey is now likely to have 370,000 residents by 2026, which will place even greater pressure on transport infrastructure and services,” Cr Ablett said.
“Council will be lobbying for the recommendations identified in the soon-to-be-completed Casey Local Bus Review to be implemented as soon as possible.
“It is vital that the State Government provides high standard bus links within Casey such as the Smartbus and Orbital Bus networks that have not been recognised in the plan for Casey.”
The mayor welcomed the announcement of the construction of new railway stations at Cranbourne East and Lynbrook, which he said were long overdue.
