A SUMMER holiday program at the Casey Road Safety Education Centre will allow children to have fun, stay active, and practise their bike safety skills.
The Casey Road Safety Education Centre, in Cranbourne East, was a mini version of local roads and bicycle tracks, said the City of Casey’s manager for community safety, Caroline Bell.
“It’s the only state-of-the-art, purpose-built road safety education centre in the south eastern suburbs, and promotes road safety awareness and skills while encouraging families to be more active and to safely use Casey’s bike tracks and local roads,” Ms Bell said.
The centre is equipped with cycling and walking tracks, road signs, traffic lights, a roundabout and school crossings.
Ms Bell said it provided an ideal opportunity for children to practise road safety skills in a controlled environment under the supervision and guidance of parents and carers.
“Children aged up to 12 are invited to come along to the centre during the January school holidays and practise their bicycle and road safety skills,” she said.
“Participants can bring their own bicycle, helmet and other safety gear or use one of the many bicycles that we have on site.”
Ms Bell said families visiting the centre during the holidays were invited to use the barbecue facilities on site or bring a picnic lunch and participate in other activities.
“The centre is also equipped with an air-conditioned classroom where children and carers can take time out to watch a movie, compete in our word-find and colouring competition or simply talk about their experiences at the centre,” she said.
As part of the school holiday program, the centre will be open from 10am until 2pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 6-22 January.
