Spring to it for summer

CASEY residents are encouraged to have a summer clean-out.
Hard-rubbish and green-waste collection services began on Monday and will continue for six weeks.
The City of Casey’s manager for engineering and environment, David Richardson, said residents could put out unwanted hard waste, including whitegoods and furniture, and bundles of green waste for the kerbside collection.
“Residents will receive a brochure detailing the type of waste that can be collected and the collection dates for specific areas as material should only be placed out on the nature strip in accordance with the collection dates for your area,” Mr Richardson said.
Acceptable materials should be stacked in three piles.
Stack one is for general hard waste such as household furniture, mattresses and small electrical appliances; stack two is for green waste, which can include up to five bundles of prunings neatly tied with twine or string; stack three is for steel/metal items such as scrap metal no longer than 1.5 metres, small car parts and tools.
Whitegoods must have doors taken off and paint tins must be empty and have lids removed.
Material must be out by 6am on the Monday of the collection week.
Items should not exceed 55 kilograms and cannot be more than 1.5 metres in length. Renovation or building materials, batteries, chemicals, unwrapped or broken glass, and bricks will not be accepted.
