GIVE and take is the key to successful marriage, according to a Narre Warren couple who recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Roy and Gladys Walden marked the special milestone on 11 December with a ceremony to renew their vows in front of their family and friends.
Mr Walden told the News the service was initially his wife’s idea.
“We had a small and intimate wedding in Springvale with only a dozen people so we decided to have something bigger to celebrate 50 years,” he said.
Mr Walden, 73, presented his wife with a new ring, crystal earrings and a necklace while Mrs Walden, 74, gave her husband a gold tie pin during the emotional service.
“A lot of the guests had tears in their eyes,” he said.
The couple, who have been living in Narre Warren for nine years, have three children, Brett, Christine and Paula, and eight grandchildren.
Mr Walden describes his wife as being his best friend.
“We enjoy travelling interstate together and playing golf,” he said.
