MOTORCYCLISTS will conduct a two-wheeled tribute to Victoria Police members killed in the line of duty when they embark on the 100km Ride to Remember this Australia Day weekend.
Hundreds of motorcyclists will kick off the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation’s Ride to Remember in Albert Park on Sunday 25 January at 8am, with guests also being treated to a free family festival featuring the Victoria Police Show Band, emergency service displays, and a barbecue lunch from 11am.
The riders will leave Albert Park and travel towards Beach Road where they will make their way to Frankston and then ride back into the City via Eastlink and the Monash Freeway.
Traffic units will escort the ride from start to finish, with television celebrity and Australia Day ambassador Geoff Cox waving off the riders.
The Ride to Remember will honour the 150 Victoria Police members who have died in the line of duty, 30 of whom were feloniously slain.
Casey inspector Andrew Miles, who has been involved in several Blue Ribbon Foundation events, applauded the work the foundation did.
Insp Miles said the money raised from the events was given back to the community through services including donations to The Alfred Trauma Centre.
In coming years the foundation will focus its attention in Victorian country areas by working in partnership with its 12 regional branches to fund new facilities in regional hospitals.
