PIPE bands from across the state will be battling it out during the 23rd Berwick Highland Gathering.
The Rotary Club of Narre Warren is staging the community event at Akoonah Park in Berwick on Sunday 8 February.
Twenty pipe bands from all over Victoria will compete throughout the day, with the crowd also being treated to a parade of massed bands.
The Berwick Highland Gathering will include traditional caber tossing, the Atlas Stones of Strength competition, Scottish dancing, a solo drumming contest, a competition between the Black Scottish Terriers and West Highland Whites, and a recent innovation at the gathering, a dog flyball competition.
Narre Warren Rotary Club president Ian Pickering said the event was the club’s main community service project.
The Berwick Highland Gathering will kick off at 10am, with former club president Neil Lucas officially opening the event at 11am.
The closing ceremony will be hosted by City of Casey mayor Geoff Ablett in the traditional role as Chieftain of the Gathering.
Scottish apparel, crafts and souvenirs will be available for purchase on the day.
Entry costs $5 per person, with concession tickets being sold for $3. Children under 14 will get in for free.
