VOLUNTEERS and organisations were honoured for their contribution to the community at Australia Day celebrations at Autumn Place Reserve, Doveton.
Anthony Byrne MP presented the 2009 Holt Australia Day Awards to 25 volunteers who had strengthened the community through their services.
“The people that we honoured with an award demonstrate what it means to be Australian,” he said.
“Their generosity in the large amount of time they give to their community, in a typically understated way, cannot be measured.
“I hope that the presentation of these awards in some small way shows that our community really values the work they do.”
Mr Byrne also recognized the Berwick and District Woodworkers’ Club for giving away thousands of toys to local community groups and charities for many years.
“This commitment from the Woodworkers Club and the dedicated volunteers deserves to be recognized,” Mr Byrne said.
“I congratulate all those receiving a Holt Australia Day Award and thank them for their tireless and selfless efforts in making our community and country a great place to live,”
