Easy opening for thieves

VICTORIA Police say residents who leave doors and windows open during the extreme heat are also providing an open window for thieves.
Police have urged members of the community to be more security conscious during hot days.
Safer Communities Inspector Jill Wood said people often made the mistake of leaving unattended doors and windows open and unlocked during the warmer months.
“We know everyone is battling the extreme summer heat at the moment and many people are leaving doors and windows open to air their homes,” Insp Wood said.
“We are encouraging people to make sure screen doors and windows are locked or difficult to enter to reduce the chances of a burglary.
“We also ask people to make sure they are closing the doors and windows when they go out.”
Insp Wood said fitting window locks would allow people to open their windows several inches while making it difficult for someone to enter.
