Hey sport – recycle

SPORTING facilities in the City of Casey can be environmentally friendly by participating in a free recycling program.
City of Casey mayor Cr Geoff Ablett said participating clubs were having a positive impact on the environment.
“Recycling at sporting clubs not only sets a positive example to the community but also reduces the amount of unnecessary waste being disposed of into garbage bins, which end up in landfill,” he said.
The materials collected from the recycling bins are sorted locally and reprocessed into new products.
“The more opportunities Casey provides for residents to recycle, the more resources we can divert from landfill. Residents are already recycling at home, and this program is an extension of the great work already being done,” Cr Ablett said.
“We urge clubs in Casey to consider being part of this program and it’s not too late to get involved and take advantage of this positive initiative.”
Council requests that bins remain contamination free by only putting in the designated items. Bins also need to be stored securely to ensure they are not damaged or stolen. Secure storage also means that they are not accessible to inappropriate rubbish dumping which will cause contamination.
