THE Endeavour Hills Uniting Care Neighbourhood Centre will offer free internet access to the community after receiving a $7500 grant as part of the Government’s Public Internet Access Program.
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan said the grants were given to community organisations to provide 10 to 20 hours of free weekly internet access for the next two years.
“We are helping more people get connected and develop internet knowledge and skills,” Mr Donnellan said.
Since 2005, about $2 million in Public Internet Access Program grants has been given to more than 300 community organisations, with 140 organisations receiving a grant in the latest round.
Endeavour Hills Uniting Care Neighbourhood Centre co-ordinator Bev Lamont said this was the first time the centre had received a funding grant.
It will be used to develop an All Abilities Internet Cafe at the centre, Ms Lamont says.
“Anyone can come in between 9am and 3pm, Monday to Friday, and have a coffee while surfing the internet,” she said.
The centre also holds computer, English, craft and exercise classes. It is on the lower level of the Endeavour Hills Leisure Centre, 10 Raymond McMahon Boulevard.
