NARRE WARREN retailer The Good Guys has raised more than $15,000 to support the ‘kids becoming champions’ program at Windermere Child and Family Services.
The store’s Matthew Sheedy said they donated to the organisation every time a customer purchased from them as part of the franchise’s ‘national cause’ program.
“We are more committed than ever before to ensure that Windermere gets all the support they need to carry out this invaluable service to our community in the upcoming year,” he said.
The program has reached $1.5 million in donations to grassroots projects.
The initiative was launched in November 2006 and is run in partnership with United Way, a national network of not-for-profit organisations that raises funds for community projects.
Mr Sheedy has been supporting the ‘kids becoming champions’ program, which assists disadvantaged children, since July 2007.
Community engagement and fundraising manager Terry Thomas from Windermere Child and Family Services said the donations raised were very valued.
“As people become stressed about finances, and times get tougher for families and businesses, we find that less money can be spared for donations to organisations assisting people in the community,” she said.
Despite the tough times, Ms Thomas says people can still make a difference by supporting those who support the community.
