Cranbourne cuts loose

CRANBOURNE Bowling Club sent a message to its Metro division-one competitors that it would be a force to be reckoned with in the finals with a devastating performance on Saturday.
The side disposed of Burwood by 19 shots in the penultimate round of the home-and-away season.
Cranbourne is hoping for a win over Croydon in the final round on Saturday to displace Burwood from second position.
Skip Lyn Quigg and his team were in brilliant form in their 29-shot win.
Brian Gay’s side ensured victory with a six-shot success, while the other two rinks had narrow losses.
Scores: Cranbourne 103 d Burwood District 87. L. Quigg 42-13; B. Gay 27-21; R. Travica 13-22; P. Elgar 31-24.
Cranbourne (2) won all four rinks in its 68-shot win over Dandenong Club on the weekend.
Skip John Pentreath and his team impressed on the fast greens in their 26-shot triumph.
The side is looking for a good win this Saturday ahead of the finals.
Scores: Cranbourne 130 d Dandenong Club 62. G. Imeson 27-19; N. Fell 31-16; J. Pentreath 37-11; A. Mickle 35-16.
Cranbourne (3) suffered a setback in its clash with Noble Park and was defeated by 17 shots.
Cranbourne won only one rink – that of Mike Noa by one shot and drew another with Stan Burnett.
Scores: Noble Park 98 d Cranbourne 81. S. Burnett 21-21; W. Ballard 19-27; M. Noa 21-20; K. Hocking 20-30.
Cranbourne (4) can thank big wins on two rinks for its 24-shot success over Waverley Golf.
Roger Roscoe and Matt Boltong’s teams played superb bowls on a fast green to finish with margins of 27 and 13 shots respectively.
This side is vying for third position on the ladder.
Scores: Cranbourne 103 d Waverley Golf 79. M. Boltong 28-15; R. Roscoe 34-7; A. Dennis 23-26; G. Ljepojevic 18-31.
Cranbourne (5) drew 91 apiece with neighbours Cranbourne RSL in a tight contest.
Both sides won two rinks each, with Sofio Raiti’s team bowling well for a 14-shot victory.
Scores: Cranbourne 91 drew with Cranbourne RSL 91. M. Eames 23-22; J. MacInnes 21-27; R. Sorensen 14-23; S. Raiti 33-19.
Cranbourne (6) finished strongly to defeat Waverley Golf by 25 shots after leading for most of the match.
Gerry Winters’ team served Cranbourne well with a 12-shot win, while Laurie Meagher and Jim Hanks also did their bit to get their teams up for wins to ensure overall victory.
Scores: Cranbourne 94 d Waverley Golf 69. G. Winters 28-16; L. Meagher 24-14; J. Hanks 22-18; T. Van Schlam 20-21.
Cranbourne’s ladies’ pennant squad posted a 14-shot success at Noble Park in a very good performance. Cranbourne won two rinks and tied another.
Shirley Venville’s team was the big winner with a 16-shot margin.
Scores: Cranbourne 94 d Noble Park 80. K. Dudink 20-18; T. Lennon 20-24; S. Venville 34-18; L. Whalley 20-20.
Cranbourne (2) overcame a slow start to beat Beaumaris by 22 shots.
Chris Rose’s team was the star with a 26-shot win, while Brenda Morrison’s team also saluted.
Scores: Cranbourne 99 d Beaumaris 77. C. Rose 39-13; B. Morrison 24-13; J. MacInnes 21-22; M. Taylor 15-29.
Meanwhile, three Cranbourne bowlers are starring at the Australian Bowls Championships in Bendigo.
Ray Travica, Alan Hilton and Fritz Helle have won their way into the final 28 bowlers in the singles championship.
The trio will play their finals at Shepparton this Sunday.
