A RETIRED footy star returned to his roots on Monday to present badges to James Cook Primary School captains.
Austin Jones attended the school for seven years and spoke to the students about his schoolyard experiences and the importance of an education.
“It was fantastic to have him come to the school. The students were excited to have him here,” principal Kathy Sharp said.
Ms Sharp said the school captains were also ecstatic that the footy great presented them with their badges.
“The captains were very excited and it gave them a sense of pride,” she said.
Grade 6 student Milica was chosen as a school captain and said she looked forward being a leader.
“I want to show that I am a good role model to younger students,” she said.
“I want to help the school by changing the students’ behaviours and make it a happier place to be. I think that if the older students behave properly, the younger students will follow.”
Ms Sharp said she was confident that school captains were strong leaders who would do a great job of representing the school.
