CITY of Casey councillor Kevin Bradford has called for the council to consider allocating $45,000 in its next budget towards a second strike team vehicle for Casey CFA crews.
Cr Bradford said at last week’s council meeting that the second vehicle would be an asset to the volunteers.
The move has been welcomed by local fire brigades.
Casey group officer Shane Keen said strike team vehicles were used to assist in co-ordination and operations when responding to fire incidents.
“We absolutely need another vehicle,” he said.
“They are a very important tool to have.”
Currently there is only one strike team vehicle used by fire brigades in the City of Casey.
The council will consider allocating the funds in the 2009-10 budget.
In other moves, the council will make an immediate donation of $10,000 to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal.
Mayor Geoff Ablett will also hold a civic function for the emergency service volunteers and families involved with the fires at a time and venue suggested by the CFA. – Kelly Yates
