DANCING star Adele Peden is hard at work practising for the VCE Season of Excellence Top Class Dance Concert after receiving the highest possible score in her dance examination last year.
The 18-year-old, who was in last year’s graduating class at Hillcrest Christian College in Clyde North, said she was thrilled to be apart of the concert on 27 March at the National Theatre.
“I’m a little nervous as I’ll be performing in front of my family, friends and teachers,” she said.
“I just want to make them and myself proud.”
Top Class is a series of performances presented by VCE dance and VCE VET dance students who received high grades for their performance examinations in 2008.
There are two concerts at 11am and 2.30pm, both of them including technique solo, composition and VCE VET dance.
Adele said the concert was great as it showcased the standard of dance from the previous year.
“I went to watch it two years ago and saw the standard of an A+ routine,” she said.
“It helped me prepare for my piece with an understanding of what was expected.”
During the audition process for a spot in the show, Adele performed jazz and contemporary pieces.
At the upcoming concert Adele will take centre stage with her composition solo, based on the theme of secrets.
“The theme is about the journey of a secret and the negative effects they can have,” she said.
“I express the story through my expressions and the dance choreography.”
Adele will be studying youth studies at Victoria University this year, while still continuing to teach contemporary dance at her local church.
Tickets for the VCE Season of Excellence Top Class Dance Concert can be purchased by calling the National Theatre on 9525 4611 or online at www.nationaltheatre.org.au
