POLICE blocked off a section of Kidds Road in Doveton on Tuesday as sheriff officers joined Casey police for Operation CARE.
Operation CARE, which has been running since January, targets drivers committing criminal and traffic offences.
Senior Constable Allen Inderwisch from the Casey Traffic Management Unit (TMU) told the News the sheriffs spoke to 17 people during the operation and executed 83 warrants, from 2pm to 7pm.
“They cleaned up a total value of $44,756.27 in outstanding fines,” he said.
Police from the Casey Traffic Management Unit, Casey Response Unit and general duties officers from Narre Warren, Cranbourne and Endeavour Hills discovered three unlicensed drivers, five unregistered vehicles, two probationary drivers not carrying their licences and found five people driving with a suspended licence.
Police also issued four defect notices for unroadworthy vehicles.
One driver was caught with obscured number plates on the vehicle, while police detected four people using mobile phones while driving and two people failing to wear seat belts.
Sen Const Inderwisch said police were happy with results from this week’s operation.
“We raked up the highest number of offenders but were disappointed at the amount of people driving with suspended licences,” he said.
“Drivers need to be aware that if they are caught with a cancelled or suspended licence then they must go to court before a magistrate. They will not receive an on the spot fine.”
Operation CARE will run until March.
