POLICE have arrested and charged a man in relation to a number of burglaries on High Street Berwick dating back to 4 January this year.
At 9.45pm on Monday night, police arrested a 29-year-old Berwick man after he attempted to remove a safe from the Mexican House restaurant.
He was charged with 13 counts of burglary, as well as a number of theft and drug-related offences.
The man is alleged by police to have stolen cash and goods valued in excess of $100,000 from a number of shops in High Street Berwick, including $35,000 from Primary café and $8000 from Moods.
The man was remanded in custody at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court, and will reappear at a later date.
Narre Warren police said they were thankful for the assistance of local traders whose information helped lead to the arrest.
