VISITORS to Casey Cardinia Libraries will soon benefit from upgraded computers.
The Victorian Government’s $71, 446.00 grant will improve library services by enhancing internet standards, with an increased range of programs, infrastructure, and features, said member for Narre Warren North Luke Donnellan.
The grant will also provide internet users with enhanced information security, protecting personal information of internet users in the libraries.
Mr Perera said that security was a critical element to ensure public libraries offer safe computer access for users of all ages.
“As the popularity of using computer terminals and laptops in public libraries increases, we must be aware of the potential for misuse,” he said
“Inappropriate material can be distressing to staff and other library users and unsafe email attachments and downloads can compromise IT infrastructure. That is why we have developed a set of guidelines, in consultation with the Public Libraries Victoria Network, which will further improve security for computer users and libraries.”
The funding is part of the Computer Management and Wireless Internet in Public Libraries Grants Program.
A total of $2 million has been committed to the program and will be distributed to 45 public library services across the state according to their population and the number of branches and mobile units in their area.
CEO Casey Cardinia Library Corporation Peter Carter said he welcomed the grant.
“We welcome the opportunity to work with the government on improving and developing our services,” he said.
