A SIX-year-old Narre Warren boy is determined to read 200 books by the end of August as part of this year’s Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge.
James Atkinson told the News he was reading a range of his favourite books including Dr Seuss.
“I’ve been reading nearly every day but have a break on the weekends,” he said.
James said he enjoyed reading as he liked to learn new things.
Despite the Grade 1 student at Hallam Valley Primary School having to read 30 books for the challenge, the six-year-old said his aim was 200 books.
“I think I can do it,” James said.
James’s mother Joanne said her son had read about 12 books in three days. “He just loves reading,” she said.“We’ve been borrowing books from the school library daily and then returning them the following day.”
Ms Atkinson said the passion for reading ran in the family. Students who complete the challenge will receive a certificate signed by the Premier.
