Crash near miss

A NARRE Warren South woman had a lucky escape last weekend when a car slammed into her fence.
Michelle McLennan told the News she was asleep in her bedroom on Friday night when she heard an almighty crash through her window, with pieces of the fence just missing the 25-year-old.
“I remember seeing the headlights coming towards me,” she said.
“They were blinding and I thought the car was coming through my house.”
Ms McLennan said a female probationary driver had lost control of the car as she was driving along Strathaird Drive.
She believes the driver of the white Commodore vehicle clipped the gutter and skidded over the nature strip.
“The car went up over a brick retaining wall and dismantled the fence,” she said.
“If it wasn’t for the retaining wall I think the car would have gone crashing through my house.”
Ms McLennan, who has been living in the area since November last year, said she was still coming to terms with the incident.
“I ran out the front of the house in hysterics as I couldn’t stop crying,” she said.
“Luckily no one was injured but we were all in shock.”
Fellow neighbours heard the commotion on the night, according to Ms McLennan. “It was the worst feeling I have ever had,” she said.
“I have been in tears every night and I can’t even step foot into my bedroom let alone get some sleep.”
Ms McLennan described the Narre Warren South street as a hoon hot spot.
“We’ve had many close calls with drivers flying past the house,” she said.
“If the police sat there they would catch so many reckless drivers because at least three out of every five drivers speed in the area.”
Fellow residents along Lake View Drive, only a short distance away from Strathaird Drive, also say their neighbourhood is a hoon hot spot.
As previously reported in the News, one of the residents, Maretta Schaffert, said she was concerned with out of control drivers racing at speeds of 100km/h.
Police are encouraging residents who witness an incident or have information about people driving in a dangerous or irresponsible manner to call the council’s 24-hour toll free Hoon Hotline on 1800 18 HOON (1800 18 4666).
Ms McLennan filed a report with the Narre Warren police station this week.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Narre Warren police station on 9705 3111.
