Fence friends

CASEY residents are encouraged to say ‘G’day’ to their neighbours this weekend to mark Neighbour Day.
City of Casey mayor Geoff Ablett said Neighbour Day on Sunday 29 March had helped residents build friendships with their neighbours since the event began in 2003.
“The aim of Neighbour Day is to encourage people to create relationships with the people who live next door and across the street as a way of strengthening our communities to create safer, healthier and more vibrant places to live,” councillor Ablett said.
Holt MP Anthony Byrne said Neighbour Day was a celebration of community.
“Neighbour Day is the perfect opportunity to crank up the barbecue or have a cuppa with the people next door or across the street,” Mr Byrne said.
Geoff Cohen and other Hunt Club residents rejuvenated the Hunt Club Residents Association in September last year. The association now has monthly meetings, prints and publishes a community newsletter and holds community gatherings.
“Geoff, Susan, Ross and other committee members of the Hunt Club Residents Association symbolise the Neighbour Day spirit – a tremendous amount of pride in where they live, a commitment to bringing people together to build a strong sense of community and making their neighbourhood a great place to raise a family.”
