SOMALIA will receive advanced medical care thanks to a Southern Health donation.
In an effort to help the Erigavo Regional Hospital treat local communities, Southern Health donated 30 pieces of hospital equipment, including wheelchairs, computers and vital medical equipment. The hospital is in a remote northern region of Somalia.
Rhonda Garard, from Southern Health Casey’s Community Health Service, said the region is at present free from civil unrest but suffers tremendous poverty and deprivation caused by years of conflict and drought.
Because of its isolation and political instability, essential services such as health care have declined, says Southern Health African Support worker Faduma Musse, who accepted the equipment on behalf of the Somali community.
“The hospital is in dire need of equipment so this donation by Southern Health is very much appreciated by the hospital and the communities in that region,” she said.
