A SUCCESSFUL three-month operation targeting drivers committing crime and traffic offences came to an end this week.
On Wednesday, police set up their last roadblock for Operation CARE at Saxonwood Drive and Maramba Drive in Narre Warren from 2pm until 6.30pm.
Since January, police set up roadblocks as part of the highly visible initiative and detected more than 150 driving offences.
They charged one person with possessing cannabis, one person with attempted rape, and one arrest was made on outstanding warrants.
Sheriff’s Department officers attended three out of the six operations in Doveton, Narre Warren and Cranbourne, collecting more than $163,000 on outstanding fines.
Senior Constable Allen Inderwisch from the Casey Traffic Management Unit said he was pleased offences such as drink driving had declined.
Within three months via the operation, nine people were caught driving with suspended licences, 20 were unlicensed, and five people were not carrying their probationary licence.
One person was caught driving while disqualified, another failed to obey a licence condition, and one person under the age of 26 was not carrying a licence with them.
Through the operation, police also nabbed three drunk drivers, 16 people who were not wearing seatbelts, 10 people who were using their mobile phones while driving, and one person who failed to obey a traffic sign.
Three learner drivers had failed to display L-plates, three learner drivers did not have a qualified driver with them. Two people gave police false names and two people stated false addresses.
Police issued 35 defect notices and one person was caught driving an unsafe vehicle.
Police also nabbed seven people who failed to display number plates, and two people displaying false plates.
