Vows turn golden

By Kelly Yates
AN ENDEAVOUR Hills couple will be renewing their vows next week to mark their golden wedding anniversary.
John and Maybel Berez-Reigosa will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on 4 April, with a service at the Glen Waverley hall from 4pm.
“We chose to renew our vows as we wanted to express our love for each other,” Mr Berez-Reigosa said.
The couple first met while at a sporting club in Argentina.
“I was playing tennis by myself and Maybel came over and borrowed my spare racquet to have a hit of the ball,” he said.
“I saw her and I was immediately impressed. It was an angel,” the 75-year-old said.
Since the first meeting, the couple began dating and married three years later in a church in Argentina surrounded by more than 130 family and friends.
The couple decided to move to Australia 27 years ago.
“We moved to Australia because we were looking for a future,” he said.
Mr Berez-Reigosa was an engineer, while his 71-year-old wife specialised in teaching Spanish and French.
The couple, who have been living in Endeavour Hills for more than 18 years, have four children, Pablo, Ariel, Gustavo and Jiselle and four grandchildren, Daniel, Natalie, Jessie, and Ammy. “We enjoy living in Endeavour Hills because of the beautiful and peaceful area,” he said.
The couple are members of the Spanish speaking City Life Church in Berwick.
“The members at the church are like our family,” he said.
Mr Berez-Reigosa said the key to a successful marriage was putting his family first.
“We enjoy spending time together and with our family,” he said.
Mr Berez-Reigosa describes his wife as being his best friend, a great mother and a hard worker.
