Good helpers wanted

SHINING members of community groups could be recognised for their achievements by receiving the $5000 Alcoa Foundation 2009 Outstanding Community Worker Award.
The award is an initiative of the Alcoa Foundation and Our Community, which provides resources, training, advice and tools for about 700,000 community groups and schools across Australia.
Our Community CEO Rhonda Galbally AO said she was pleased the Alcoa Foundation was supporting high-achieving community members.
“The Alcoa Foundation Outstanding Community Worker Award generated a huge response when it was first offered in 2007,” she said. “Nominations came in from all over the country containing stories of hard work, integrity, compassion and perseverance. We are thrilled that once again there is an opportunity to recognise the community sector worker who best exemplifies the sector’s ideals of dedication, excellence, and service.”
The award is open to any paid worker from any Australian community organisation.
The winner of the award will receive $5000 to be spent on assisting professional development such as through education and training, attending conferences, and paying for books or subscriptions. Every person nominated will receive a certificate.
Nomination forms for the Alcoa Foundation Outstanding Community Worker Award are available from the website at www.ourcommunity.com.au/communityworkeraward or by contacting Tammy Lobato’s office on Tel: 9796 1987. Entries close on Friday April 24, 2009.
