A NARRE Warren police officer was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with spinal injuries last week after a car collision along the Narre-Cranbourne Road.
Casey Traffic Management Unit (TMU) Senior Constable Allen Inderwisch said the 37-year-old policewoman from Five Ways was trapped in the vehicle for around 15 minutes. The incident took place on Thursday 26 March at 11.40pm near the intersection of Camms Road in Cranbourne.
Police are interviewing a 28-year-old Cranbourne man in relation to the incident for failing to obey a stop sign and drink driving offences.
He was not injured during the incident.
Sen Const Inderwisch said eight police officers from Narre Warren and Cranbourne attended the scene, with four CFA units, three ambulances and the air wing.
Police blocked the entire intersection for just over an hour.
Sen Const Inderwisch said that investigating a collision involving a fellow police officer was always a very difficult situation.
“However we have to remain professional and deal with the collision the same way that we would for any other person,” he said.
The police officer is still in hospital and is expected to be there for the immediate future, according to police.
Police could not confirm when the injured officer would be back at work.
