PAST and present councillors, local MPs, Rotarians and guests gathered last Friday night to recognise former Edrington Ward councillor Mick Morland’s long service to local government.
More than 100 people filled the council chamber at the Civic Centre in Narre Warren to celebrate his 17-year commitment to the City of Casey.
Mr Morland was a councillor for the former City of Berwick from 1992 to 1994, and elected to the very first Casey Council in 1997, remaining in office until 2008.
He was mayor of the City of Casey in 2001 to 2002.
Some familiar faces on the night included former mayors Janet Halsall, John Hastie, and Brian Oates and former MP Bob Charles and South East Metropolitan MP Inga Peulich.
Mr Morland thanked his wife Kay for all of her support during his years as a councillor.
“I’ve walked away from council with a lifetime of friendships,” he said.
Opera singer Shu-Cheen Yu entertained guests with two songs during the civic reception.
