SECONDARY college students tackled their fears with a karate chop during a Brilliant Attitude workshop at Gleneagles Secondary College.
Grade seven to 10 students from Gleneagles, Fountain Gate, and Endeavour Hills Secondary Colleges participated in the one day motivational workshop, run by motivational speaker Bob Allwright.
The former Casey resident is a popular speaker and trainer in personal development, advanced learning, and reading technique. He travels Australia and Asia Pacific, speaking to schools, colleges, businesses and organisations.
He spoke to the students about goal setting, building self-confidence, and how to achieve what they want out of life and overcoming fears, councillor Wayne Smith said.
“His big aim was about conquering fears,” he said. “At the end of the day, students write their fears on a piece of wood, it could be anything from spiders to exams. Then, while music is blaring and other students cheer them on, and split the wood with a karate chop. They were taught how to do it safely, and everyone was able to break it.”
Cr Smith said Mr Allwright visited schools in Casey for the past five years and each workshop was a success.
“Students love it,” he said. “Every year they want to do it again, but we spread it around so different students get a chance to participate.”
