STAR choreographers from the hit television show So You Think You Can Dance taught Berwick dancers the tricks of the trade yesterday (Wednesday).
Dancers from the Suzie Ryrie School of Dance took part in hip hop workshops from 10am to 5.30pm with instructors Vince Calingasan and Etienne Khoo.
The Enterprise Avenue studio has connections with the Channel 10 show through hip hop teacher Adrienne Mewett who also teaches under the guidance of star judge Jason Coleman.
More than 100 dancers aged from eight years to mid-30s took part in the workshops.
Etienne, who has been teaching for more than 10 years, told the News he enjoyed teaching street, ghetto and lyrical hip hop.
“I love to see the kids dance and sweat it out,” he said.
The energetic dancer described his experience on So You Think You Can Dance as exciting yet stressful.
“Being a choreographer on the show is different as you don’t know which dancers you will get for the choreography you have created,” he said.
“It’s hard teaching a ballet dancer hip hop but you cross your fingers and hope they can master the routine.”
Etienne said the feedback from the judges on the show in regard to his unique choreography was amazing.
