A BMX track in Berwick is keeping Casey kids amused these school holidays.
The dirt track in Kirsty Lottkowitz Reserve, which was constructed earlier this year, attracts low-level BMX and mountain bike riders of all ages.
City of Casey acting manager city living Andrew Butterfield told the News that the council identified the need for a BMX facility in Berwick in its 2007 skate strategy.
He said an analysis of suitable sites was undertaken and the direction from council was that the facility be located in the south-west corner of the Avebury Drive reserve.
“The decision was made due to the reserve’s central location and proximity to Timbarra Primary School, and its visibility from surrounding roads and residential properties which promotes casual surveillance and safety,” he said.
The track is worth $5000.
The City of Casey has nine skate parks in operation and planning is underway for three additional skate facilities.
In addition to this there are 21 BMX tracks in various locations, according to Mr Butterfield.
“The City of Casey does not charge for casual use of BMX tracks within its recreation reserves. The facilities are available for use at all times during daylight hours,” he said.
