Lots of life in Casey relay

RAIN didn’t stop a strong field completing the 2009 Casey Cardinia Relay for Life.
The event, which attracted 28 teams comprised of 1467 participants, raised $166,373 for the Cancer Council of Victoria.
The ribbon was cut at 6pm on Friday 13 March and the first steps were taken in the annual event at Akoonah Park in Berwick.
“At dusk, we lined the track with candles andmessages dedicated to loved ones who have faced cancer.
“We know from previous Casey Relay for Life events that this is always one of the most moving reminders of why we fight cancer,” Relay for Life co-ordinator Sarah Dobson said.
While the rain fell on Saturday morning and, unfortunately, shortened the event, it definitely did not dampen participants’ spirits.
The Relay for Life is a 24-hour walk, stroll or run, where teams of ten or more people take to the track to raise much needed funds for the Cancer Council of Victoria.
All funds raised from the event go directly to supporting the Cancer Council of Victoria’s research, education and support services.
Those interested in taking part of the 2010 Casey Cardinia Relay for Life can visit www.relay forlife.org.au or call 1300 656 585.
