Saddle up for bounds event

CASEY is saddling up for this year’s Riding of the Bounds event on Sunday 19 April.
The annual event, which is held at Akoonah Park, attracts more than 200 riders and horse-drawn vehicles.
The riding course is approximately 15 kilometres and takes about two and a half hours to complete, starting and finishing at the Berwick park.
City of Casey arts and leisure manager Robyn Bowen said the 2009 Riding of the Bounds event was highly anticipated, particularly given that the 2008 event had to be cancelled due to weather conditions.
“The 20th anniversary of this annual ride was scheduled to be held in August last year, but had to be cancelled due to continued rain which had left much of the course either under water or too muddy and slippery for the ride to proceed safely,” she said.
The event is not a competition ride, and will include a barbecue lunch and an awards ceremony.
Prizes will be awarded in categories such as champion rider, mayor’s choice, best presented group, best horse drawn vehicle, most Australian rider and best western turnout.
The ride will commence at 10am, with registrations at 8am.
Entry costs $15 per person and $30 for a family of four.
For details contact the City of Casey on 9705 5200.
