Bringing books to life

CASEY residents with a story to tell can become part of the Living Books program.
Council urged community members to share their stories with others at a special event at the Narre Warren Library on Wednesday 27 May.
“As a Living Book, all you are required to do is to be yourself. The role of a Living Book is interesting and fun,” City of Casey mayor Geoff Ablett said.
“Living Books must be willing to answer questions honestly, help people learn about different lifestyles and talk with a range of different readers.”
The new program is aimed to build and strengthen relations between Casey residents, City of Casey Manager Community Development Janette Green said. “This innovative program will give participants the opportunity to be heard and understood and it has the potential to promote tolerance and harmony in the community,” she said.
The Living Books idea was brought to council’s attention by Cr Lorraine Wreford who became aware of the concept at the Local Government Managers Australia conference last year.
The City of Casey and the Casey-Cardinia Library Corporation will be offering training to all Living Books.
To register your interest, or find out more about becoming a Living Book, contact the City of Casey Community Development Support Officer on 9705 5200.
