Cannons miss three times

ALL three of Casey Hockey Club’s men’s sides lost in a tough day at the office on Saturday.
The firsts – coming off a big win in round one – pushed hard against a strong Knox team, but had their hearts broken with a 4-3 decision.
Winger Cameron Ritchie used his pace to score and centre-forward Scott Daly did his job again with his second in two games.
Penalty corner specialist Nick Hatch also scored with a blazing strike.
Coach Phil Wagg’s reserves side was evenly matched with Knox and the back-and-forth struggle proved an entertaining spectacle as the rain came down.
A Knox breakaway late in the game saw it score to make it one-nil and add to the Cannons’ heartbreak.
The thirds went down 5-2 to a classy Knox outfit.
The score was perhaps not an indicator of the fight shown by the thirds, who battled back from three-nil down through goals from Hayden Mitchell and Paul Ross to make it 3-2.
Mistakes saw Knox snag a couple of late goals.
The junior match of the round saw the under-17 pennant A side rout Yarra Valley 4-2. Jai Brown’s and Callan Crawford’s good defence helped repel early attacks and a powerful save from goalkeeper Liam Crawford seemed to stun his charges into action.
A breakaway counter attack from Hayden Mitchell down the right wing saw Chris Wood benefit from his cross to make it 1-0.
Good one-two play between Wood and Craig Moore saw the latter slot the second, before a solo effort from Moore saw him slam a tomahawk reverse strike into the net.
The visitors fought back and scored an early one in the second half.
But an opportunistic goal from Mitchell put the game to bed despite Yarra Valley slotting another.
