STUDENTS at Maramba Primary School commemorated Anzac Day with a special service on 24 April.
Berwick RSL member Sergeant Peter Beames, Senior Sergeant Gerry Hengel, staff and students gathered at a Lone Pine tree, and two representatives from each of the 27 classes laid wreaths.
The ceremony was played over the school’s PA system, allowing about 600 students to participate from within their classrooms.
Indonesian teacher Doris De Luca said the ceremony provided students with a greater understanding of Anzac Day.
“It’s important for children to remember brave soldiers that fought on battle fields, and for them to acknowledge our war heroes,” she said.
“The students quite enjoyed it. Grade 6 students are currently learning about Gallipoli, and the service helped them, and all the older students understand the significance of Anzac Day.”
