FIREFIGHTERS were rattling the tins in Narre Warren last weekend in an effort to raise money to purchase a catering trailer.
The firefighters from the Narre Warren Fire Brigade were out in force at the Fountain Gate Homemaker Centre on Saturday from 9.30am and collected more than $2200 from the community.
Lieutenant Damian Baker told the News the station ran the catering service for firefighters battling long duration incidents in the area.
“We can provide hot food from a barbecue, drinking water and coffee and tea,” he said.
“The catering unit is always well received by hungry and fatigued firefighters.”
While the firefighters were hitting the streets in search of donations over the weekend, they were briefly called out to a fire at a Narre Warren park and a car accident on the Monash Freeway near Narre Warren North Road.
Lt Baker said the brigade members were very pleased and humbled by the public’s generosity.
“It is always good to get out and chat to the community and receive feedback and thanks for the volunteer work that we do,” he said.
