AS foggy mornings begin to feature on Melbourne weather forecasts, police are reminding motorists not to be hazy about the laws regarding fog lights.
Police say unnecessary use of front fog lights can land you with a $119 fine as it’s an offence to use fog lights in other than hazardous weather conditions.
Between April 2008 and April this year, police booked 681 motorists for inappropriate use of fog lights.
Senior Sergeant John Gibson of the Road Safety office said drivers should only be using front fog lights when the road conditions called for them and not for cosmetic effects.
“The law is simple, if it’s not foggy, don’t use fog lights,” he said.
