A pirate crew

By Lia Bichel
PIRATES were out in full force, singing and dancing and wowing audiences at five performances last week.
Nearly 40 students from Cranbourne Secondary College combined talents to entertain audiences with their production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance.
The 130-year-old play was performed on 19 and 20 May at the Cranbourne Community Theatre.
“The students put on a wonderful show and they had a fabulous time doing so,” production co-ordinator and director Susan Bergman said.
Ms Bergman said the students, who ranged from Year 7 to Year 12, rehearsed the play for a term and a half. Two assistant directors, a choreographer, a musical director and a former student offered their assistance.
“Everyone was very supportive, and the shows were a success,” Ms Bergman said.
The cast and crew are in this year’s Lyre Bird Awards and will be made aware of nominations in December.
